1,000 monthly active users
OneSignal's billing FAQ: “On the Free plan, you must have fewer than 1,000 monthly active users (MAU) to send mobile push and in-app messages.” The count is summed across every app in the organization, and crossing it leaves 24 hours to upgrade before those two channels stop; web push and email keep working. A modest indie game passes a thousand actives in its first week.
OpenPush · freeFree to 100,000 MAU per app — a hundred times the cap, and counted per app — with every push feature included. Past that, Pro is a flat $99 a month to a million.
Automation
3 active Journeys
A welcome series, a win-back flow and one seasonal campaign and you are at the ceiling. Growth raises it to five, Professional to twenty; only Enterprise removes it.
OpenPush · freeJourneys included, multi-step, with no cap on active journeys or steps — build the whole lifecycle, not three hops.
Lapsed-7d, lapsed-30d, whales, new installs, one per locale — you're past six before you've built a real matrix.
OpenPush · freeUnlimited segments, in the same filter vocabulary you already use.
Data
6 data tags, no custom events
Level, last_purchase, language, VIP status, A/B bucket and region is six. Custom events are not on the Free plan at all, so you cannot trigger on what a person just did.
OpenPush · freeUnlimited data tags, and custom events as segment filters and journey triggers.
Timing
Intelligent Delivery: not on Free
Sending at each person's own hour is the single biggest lift most apps ever see from push — and on OneSignal it starts on the Growth plan, where the per-MAU meter starts too.
OpenPush · freeIntelligent Delivery and per-timezone sends included on every plan.
Testing
A/B tests: 2 variants
Two variants is one comparison. Testing a title, an emoji and a send time together needs more arms, and those start on the Professional plan.
OpenPush · freeTwo to ten variants, a held-back audience, and a manual or automatic winner.
Lock Screen and in-app
Live Activities and in-app: the same 1,000 MAU
OneSignal's plan table lists Live Activities and in-app messaging on Free for organizations with up to 1,000 monthly active users — the same line as mobile push.
OpenPush · freeLive Activities, Android Live Updates and in-app messages included — start, update, end, push-to-start.
Web push
10,000 subscribers per send
A modestly successful web-push audience blows past 10K fast — then a single broadcast can't reach everyone at once.
OpenPush · freeNo per-send cap on web push. Send to your whole audience in one go.
Reporting
30 days of reporting history
Any month-over-month or seasonal analysis (retention cohorts, holiday campaigns) needs more than 30 days of history.
OpenPush · freeTwo years of delivery events and reporting history — and the importer brings your OneSignal message history across so the charts don't start from zero.
Everyone who can look can also send. A viewer role arrives on Growth, and the full set on Professional.
OpenPush · freeAdmin, manager and viewer roles on every plan.
Support
No prioritized support
When a send misbehaves at 2am before a launch, the free queue is the wrong place to be standing.
OpenPush · the sameNo better here: Free gets best-effort support. Email support starts on Starter, at $19 a month. What Free does give you is the way out — your whole account exports as NDJSON or CSV, on a button.
Limits reflect OneSignal's published plan table and billing FAQ, checked 6 Oct 2026. One limit that is easy to miss: on the Free plan OneSignal keeps only the subscription records that have been active in the past 18 months. Spot a change? Tell us and we'll update same-day.
